Why You Need a Responsive Website (Infographic)
Responsive web design means that your site adapts to the screen size of desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones so that it’s readable and usable for everyone! Did you know that 1/3 of all website traffic came from smart phones in 2015? If your website is not responsive, you are missing out on a huge customer base and ruining your mobile search engine rankings.
What exactly is Responsive Design?
Mobile Responsive design is a website design approach aimed at crafting websites to provide an optimal viewing experience. When a website is responsive, the layout and/or content responds (or, adapts) based on the size of the screen it’s presented on. A responsive website automatically changes to fit the device you’re reading it on. Typically, there have been four general screen sizes that responsive design has been aimed at:
- the widescreen desktop monitor
- the smaller desktop (or laptop)
- the tablet (iPads, Kindles etc.)
- the mobile phone (iPhone, Android, Blackberry, etc.)
The goal is to create a mobile, responsive website that is easy to read and easy to navigate. There should be a minimum amount of resizing, panning, and scrolling for the user- no matter what device they are using to view your website.
Before, when developers wanted to reach all those devices, they needed to create different versions of a website, depending on what device they wanted it to be accessed from. Now, mobile responsive design is here to solve this problem. Written in a flexible code that enables one single website to be optimally viewed from all kinds of devices, this technology is without a doubt the future of web development.
