Client Recap Summer 2010

The Dream Drawer is an online store selling unique and helpful products devoted to sleeping, dreaming and getting a better night’s sleep.  We first teamed up with owner Donna Talarico to create a logo for the store. After that, we worked on 4 homepage banners to advertise their dream journals, sleep masks, sound machines and all-natural sleep aids. We also created a unique website background and some divider bars for the product pages. What’s next? Promotional postcards to send out to spas and sleep doctors!

Northeast Freight Transfer contacted Bullzeye Design in need of a new website. We’re about 90% complete with the process and it looks great… we can’t wait to show it off. The relationship blossomed quickly and NEFT quickly jumped at the opportunity to work with us for their other design needs. After a logo touch-up, we moved on to a 2-sided 8.5 x 11″ flyer design to advertise their services. They just placed an order today for newly designed business cards and we couldn’t be happier to be working with them!

Cakes by Curly is our newest website client. Mike Walsh is a baker in the Scranton, PA area. He creates specialty desserts, cakes & more. Some people call him “Cupcake Curly” because of his amazing cannoli cupcakes. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to try MANY of Mike’s desserts. They are seriously works of art. We can only hope to create him a website that’s as beautiful and delicious as his pastries.

A warm welcome to all of our new clients. Thank you for your business and the opportunity to get to know each and every one of you.

Web Apps that Offer Great Alternatives to Desktop Programs

There are a lot of web-based applications out there today that function very effectively for the modern business owner. These apps give you the benefits of a desktop computer program with the flexibility to access your information from any location – and from any computer!!

While many online apps can’t compete with their desktop counterparts, there are some that can. Here’s a list of my favorites:

Google Documents

Google Docs is an online office suite made available for free by Google. You can create documents, spreadsheets and presentations online, as well as upload and share existing documents you’ve created. You can choose the people you want to view your document. The best part are the collaboration tools: Multiple people can view and make changes at the same time. There’s an on-screen chat window for spreadsheets, and document revisions show you exactly who changed what, and when.

Prezi

Prezi is a great web app to create stunning & professional looking presentation material – a good replacement for Microsoft Powerpoint

LastPass

LastPass is an online password manager to keep all of your passwords vaulted in one place. It’s the last password you’ll ever have to remember.

Instacalc

InstaCalc is a fast, simple and powerful calculator. Normal calculators and spreadsheets make you type and press Enter. Change the numbers, press Enter. Change the numbers again, press Enter. With Instacalc, your answers appear as you type.  There are also features to create graphs, create equations, and help with programming functions (HEX value conversion, etc.). This is a great and powerful tool that will surely replace your desktop calculator.

CurdBee

CurdBee provides online invoicing for small businesses. This is one I personally use. Why? It provides me with an easy, fast and secure online billing experience. CurdBee is all your billing in one convenient location. Estimate, invoice, and get paid – it’s that simple.

Join.me

Join.me is a a staggeringly simple and effective way to work collaboratively, allowing you to share your computer screen with another person at a different location- you can even take control of the other computer in order to troubleshoot problems or contribute to a document. Use it for impromtu meetings, or, if you’re like me, to fix your dad’s computer when it’s running slow.

Goplan

Goplan is a project management tool lets you keep track of your projects and collaborate with your colleagues securely through an intuitive user interface. Companies like Mozilla, Boxee and Digital Kitchen use Goplan to manage their projects. It has great, easy-to-use tools for task management, issue tracking, project calendars, and file management.

PDFescape

PDFescape is an online app that can replace many of the functions of Adobe Reader. Use PDFescape to read and edit PDF documents and fill out and/or design PDF forms.

Talon

Talon is a screenshot tool that offers a nice replacement to SnagIt. Take screen captures  INSTANTLY. Save them to your clipboard, desktop or even online. Add this application to your web browser (Firefox or Chrome) and it will perform a screen capture and then open the image  in a basic image editor where you can do markup (draw arrows and rectangles), edit (crop, rotate and resize) and get the exact pixel colors of the image.

Zoomit

Zoomit is a presentation utility for zooming and drawing on the screen. Use it to circle, draw arrows, and call attention to areas of the screen while you’re presenting to your audience.

Have any more online apps to share? We’d love to hear about them.

Do You Think Like a Goldfish?

A hundred years ago, working on the farm, your attention span would have been about 20 minutes (*one minute for each year of age, until age 20).

Then came a little thing called “THE INTERNET”! Maybe you’ve heard of it?

Now, we’re drowning in Social Media distractions: You Tube videos, Twitter updates, Linked in requests, iPhone apps… each one bringing choices and stress.

Too many messages, too many options, too little time.

How are our brains responding to all this stimulation?

Turns out, we’re learning to think differently. More specifically, we’re learning to think more quickly.

The addictive nature of web browsing can leave you with an attention span of 9 seconds. (-BBC News)

9 SECONDS

That’s all we get before people’s brains make a decision whether to stay focused or jump to a new topic.

Welcome to the A.D.D. World! The short-attention-span theater features 5,000 marketing messages a day. Faster than FedEx,  Bigger than Disney World. More unpredicatable than Lady Gaga. In the A.D.D. world, fascinating messages (and people, and companies, and brands, and  ideas) TRIUMPH.

They earn BIGGER budgets, MORE time, BETTER relationships, GREATER admiration, DEEPER trust.

They can charge a higher price, create more buzz, and garner more loyalty. *so um… booyah.

Brands that fail to fascinate consumers will lose. It’s that simple. (sorry)

How can your brand persuade in the 9 second world?

There is a very real truth in this presentation. Living in the fast-paced multi-tasking world that we do, how do you stand out from your competition in any industry?

You need to develop a strong brand and deliver important messages that your customers want to hear. Even more importantly, you have to be a step AHEAD. What makes you stand out from your competition? What’s your niche? How do you gain customers? How can you keep them coming back?
